Story :: Prince of Tennis, RyomaSakuno :: "Never-Ending Rain"
I felt all RyomaSakuno-y a while ago, and while waiting for my turn to use the computer, wrote this on my notebook, which, when I got on, typed and am posting here. ^__^ RyomaSakuno is my favorite PoT pairing, as it is just adorable! ♥ If you want to request a fic, just comment on this entry or any of the others, I really don't mind. Of course, reviews are more than welcome! :D
Title: Never-Ending Rain
Date: Started and Ended May 6 2005
Fandom: Prince of Tennis/Tennis no Oujisama
Rating: G to PG
Description: This ficcy is for
A brown-haired girl shivers as, clutching her umbrella, the cold rain falls on the wet earth, never ceasing to elicit looks from the people around them, who want the sun to shine once more. It hasn’t stopped, she thinks. It hasn’t stopped yet. That thought, whirling around in her mind, makes her sigh.
As she walks, she thinks of her friend Tomo-chan, who is at home caring for her younger siblings. The pig-tailed girl had left school right at dismisal time on the orders of her parents, whereas SHE had stayed to clean up the classroom with her fellow classmates. Now she wonders if she had made the right choice.
It’s not like I don’t like the rain, she says to herself. That’s not it...
The rain, the sky. They all reflect how sad the brunette had been at school earlier that day. During Math class, the teacher called on her when she wasn’t listening. After extracting the cookies she had baked during Home Economics from the oven, a bully had tripped her, sending cookies flying everywhere.
As the girl walks up the sidewalk to the stoplight, she looks around at the others near her. A little girl eating ice cream, regardless of the cold weather... A businessman looking at his watch, tapping his foot impatiently against the ground... A boy in a cap, with a tennis bag over his shoulder, the rain dripping down his clothes... A stray dog...
A boy in a cap? The girl starts and looks back at who is beside her, her mouth forming the words, "Ryoma-kun?"
The black-haired boy turns to look at her with a deadpan expression. The long-haired girl says in worry, as she studies him, "Ryoma-kun! You’re so wet...!" She raises her umbrella over his head, unmindful of the stares of those around her. "Why didn’t you bring a jacket? It's been raining since this morning..."
Echizen Ryoma looks up at the sky-blue umbrella, and then back down at her, "You don’t have to, you know..." The light turns green, and the passers-by begin to walk across the street. Sakuno notices, and looks at Ryoma to follow her.
She says, "You have to be careful of your health, Ryoma-kun... You won’t be able to play tennis if you get sick..." She seems to reprimand him like a mother would, albeit more gently. It reminds the tennis player of something...
The two don’t notice that, as they speak, the sky starts to clear up, and the sun begins to let a few of its rays shine on the dark street. When he looks, Ryoma says, "Hey, look, the sun..."
He holds Sakuno’s hand and closes the umbrella for her as the sun begins to show itself more and more that late afternoon. Of course, he doesn't notice Sakuno turn bright red and pull her hand away. Ryoma then hands the girl her umbrella, adjusts his cap on his hand and says, "I'll be going now..." He turns and walks in the direction of his home, leaving Sakuno on the sidewalk, staring after him with a tinge of pink on her cheeks.
Ryoma-kun.. When his figure finally disappears into the distance, she blushes and looks up at the sky, which seems to smile at her. Sakuno Ryuzaki smiles back and murmurs, so softly that nobody can hear her:
"Thank you very much.."
And on a not-so-sappy note... Belated Happy Birthday, LJ! *hugs it* The birthday of the journal
